Kawana Way Roundabout, Sunshine Coast, QLD
To improve access and vehicle capacity to the new Sunshine Coast University Hospital at Birtinya, four roundabouts on Kawana Way were upgraded and additional lanes were installed at Kawana Way Link Road and Kawana Way. The $22 million project was funded by the Queensland Government under the State Infrastructure Plan
Project Design Brief
The upgrade included dual roundabout approach lanes and off-road cycle lanes in both directions as well as improved street lighting. The addition of extra lanes created problems for the designers as the reduced shoulder width meant that there was insufficient space available for the traditional pit and pipe drainage system.
ACO's Solution
- KerbDrain QK200SF
- ACO’s Technical Service Department assisted designers with the hydraulic performance data of the KerbDrain QK200SF system including advice on slot intake capacities and how far apart to space the gully pits
Benefits
- The profile of the KerbDrain QK200SF is a semi-mountable kerb profile for use on median strips
- Access units positioned at regular intervals along the channel runs ensure easy access for rodding and maintenance
