SCUH Bus Station, Birtinya, QLD

The recently opened Sunshine Coast University Hospital (SCUH) is an integrated health service centrally located to the key population centres across the Sunshine Coast including Maroochydore, Caloundra, Kawana, Nambour and Noosa Heads. To cater for the increase in visitors to the site, a public transport system was implemented offering a range of options to cater for the various needs of the patients and visitors, staff and students, businesses and customers attending the precinct. Queensland Health funded the construction of the new bus station located close to the entries of both the public and private hospitals.

Project Design Brief

Pedestrian safety was paramount for the designers of the bus station and a flat pavement suitable for large numbers of pedestrians, cyclists and wheelchairs was required. To protect the bus stop from spray and run-off, a continuous capture drainage system was needed.
